Description:

About David Harvey
David has been working behind the scenes for shows for a very long time now. He works in venues of all shapes and sizes for amateur, community and professional companies. Some of the shows have needed various blood and gore effects.

About the workshop
Sometimes we need to create the effect of loss of bodily fluids on stage – usually blood from wounds or injuries – but also vomit and worse.

In film, the camera can stop while effects are prepared and subsequent editing allows very realistic results. On stage however, the whole performance is live and continuous so we must disguise the means and still deliver those realistic results.

This is an introduction to staging effects using simple and cheap methods to create them, the materials and equipment needed, and how to make them realistic.

There will be a chance to stage a scene or so with a selection of effects. The blood should wash out, but just in case wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy (a white shirt is good to show up the blood) and bring a change of clothes and a towel.

Note: We won’t be covering make-up of wounds etc.
