Melanie is having a frustrating evening – waiting for her party to join her at her favourite restaurant, one waiter is condescending towards her while another ignores her completely. But events take a worse turn still when she seems to overhear a plot to murder an innocent man on his wedding anniversary.
What can Melanie do about it, and is the situation quite what it appears anyway? A Hitchcockian thriller with wry wit, Consuming Passions was Alan Ayckbourn’s 80th play, first performed in 2016.
“Ayckbourn once more is the master of the dining table scene, spinning plates both farcical and dark.” (Charles Hutchinson, York Press)
Consuming Passions comprises two linked single-act plays, Premonitions and Repercussions.
