Play Reading Group: Launching daytime readings

led by Liz Burton

Play reading group

25 April 2024

2 pm to 4 pm

Admission: This first event free

We’re trialling day-time play-readings, aimed at adults who are free during the day and may be feeling isolated. Come along if you like reading plays, or if you’d just like to listen. Well-behaved babies welcome. Sorry, no dogs or unaccompanied children.

Our initial venue will be Carvalho’s Café, 106 Natal Road, Streatham, SW16 6HZ, on Thursday April 25th from 2 pm to 4 pm. The space is fully accessible.

Our first play will be Home I’m Darling, Laura Wade’s dark comedy about sex, cake, and the quest to be the perfect 1950s housewife.

This first play-reading is free. Subsequent events will be free to STC members and £3 to non-members. The emphasis would be on feel-good, uplifting and comedic material. A group leader will facilitate the event and encourage people to get the most out of it as possible. Participants will be invited to suggest plays, and we will provide the scripts. If you are interested or for any enquiries, please email us on playreadings@streathamtheatre.org.uk.

The group will run in addition to our regular monthly events, which cover a wide range of theatre-related topics, including workshops, improvisation, quizzes and an annual Streatham’s Got Talent event.
