Never know what to do with your hands while acting?

This practical workshop introduces using physical movement to assist your acting in character. We will explore how status, age, relationships and much more can be shown by your body through simple things like posture, breath, and tension.

Supportive, playful and accessible, the workshop builds confidence, physical clarity and expressive range, giving actors tools to help get into character for performance.

We will also look at intimacy work, how to communicate boundaries and feel safe flirting in character, and also how to safely stage believable fights and simple stunts!

Emily Denton is an emerging director with a specialism in movement and character background work. She has trained in naturalistic acting and has been assistant director for several plays including Nell Gwynn (Network Theatre, 2025), Accidental Death of an Anarchist’ (STC, 2025) and Through the Bounds of Masculinity comes the Universe (Wandsworth Arts Fringe, 2024).

Her next play is A Streetcar named Desire (Network Theatre, Sept 2026).
