Description:
About Alan Bennett
Born in Leeds in 1934, Alan Bennett is one of the UK’s most loved comic playwrights, actors, narrators and journalists. His unique skill at observation of the ordinary and no-nonsense response, makes him a firm favourite with audiences of film theatre and literature. He first achieved notice in 1960, through the comedy revue Beyond the Fringe. His first play, Forty Years On, was produced in 1968. Numerous plays, films, television and radio series followed. In 1987 this series of monologues for BBC television made him a household name and earned him the first of six Lawrence Olivier Awards. His other most well-known works include Kafka’s Dick, The
Madness of George III, The History Boys, The Lady in the Van and Keeping On Keeping On.
About the workshop
Following our successful 2016 STC production of a selection of the TALKING HEADS monologues, we have decided it’s time to reconnect with Alan Bennett by reading more of his classic monologues. This is a relaxed evening to enjoy Alan Bennett at his best. Come along to read or listen. This is not an audition, we’re intending to giggle, laugh and have fun!
